What is rice exactly?

I know it's a seed, but what is it? Is it a fruit, a bean, a nut?

Rice is the seed of the grass species Oryza sativa (Asian rice) or Oryza glaberrima (African rice).

Botanically, a cereal grain, such as corn, rice, or wheat, is also a kind of fruit (a caryopsis). However, the fruit wall is very thin and is fused to the seed coat, so almost all of the edible grain is actually a seed.
