What is this in the back of my truck and what is it’s purpose?

Rich Grandad couldn’t add another truck to his insurance and he just bought one so he gave me an old truck so he could put the new one on his insurance and I had to clean it out and all that and I noticed the gooseneck hutch and these weird bars that cross horizontal

Tl;dr got a truck given to me and don’t know what the bars are for

The cross bars are for mounting a 5th wheel hitch. They should be bolted through the floor of the truck and into the frame underneath. The 5th wheel platform drops into the slots in the bars and is held in place with pins.

I found images of both gooseneck and fifth wheel hitches mounted on rails like this. Since there is a ball for a gooseneck, I assume there was a fifth wheel hitch mounted at one time.

It's for mounting a goosneck hitch but it seems like a clever lad could have asked his grandad.

Mounting bars for the hitch. They should be bolted to the frame.
