What is the role of a first aider,what things are they trained to do,what procedures can they do, anything on what they can do or are would be helpful

    Perform first aid :-)

    Basically, call the ambulance and make their best effort of keeping the patient alive until they arrive. Training (over here, civilian) involves a 16 hour refresher course every two years, so it's a bit much to list it all here - bandaging, CPR, AED and legal issues are pretty much the main points, plus checking out what of the stuff they told you in the last course is now off limits, and what of the off limits stuff from the last course before that is now to be used again.
