Los Angeles has a population more than 11 times that of Honolulu and covers an area more than 7 times as large. Obviously Los Angeles has far more to offer in terms of activities, attractions, culture, food, nightlife, and anything else that can be found in a large and populous urban area. Honolulu is much more condensed and has a much more modest population, so that's going to affect things quite a bit. Both have scenic views, areas where there's extreme wealth and other areas that are more rundown. Honolulu has beaches and mountains. Los Angeles has beaches, hills and semi-arid desert scenery. In terms of sanitation, that would depend on where in either city one happens to be. Keep in mind that the Greater Los Angeles Area encompasses many municipalities that are not part of the City of Los Angeles.
