    I believe Alexander Graham Bell took an expired patent as the inventor couldn't afford to keep it up and claimed that as his own.

    If you look at the patents, the head on both drawings are 100% identical, one is simply rotated 90°>

    Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. It much different then a phone from 1997. You couldn’t call the other person with the first telephone. You would have to turn yours on and hope that they just do happen to have theirs on too. And you couldn’t talk into the microphone the way most of us tend to do it nowadays. You would have to talk really loudly into the speaker. And even then, the sound was muffled compared to 2019. So, you would have to try to understand what the other person was saying.
