Is it bad to pay with cash?

My male hairstylist and a female coworker were at the desk when I was ready to pay. When I asked him if there is discount with cash (because price wasn't agreed in the beginning), the female coworker quickly got up from her seat and left us. Why? He has a higher position than her though. Btw, I also did add a 20 percent tip on top of the fee.

Where I am, most places like when you pay cash and some do offer you a small discount if using cash. So, I don't know why they'd get all angry about it. Plus, using cash, you won't be stuck with any fees or interest.

Of course it's not bad to pay with cash.

She left because the conversation about money was between you and your stylist and was none of her business. Your question was a bit of a social clunker and people generally try to avoid those.

Why do you think there should be a cash discount? Let's say you paid $40 for your hair cut. If they give you a 2% discount (what it costs to accept a credit card), it's 80 cents. You're willing to tip $8 but ask for an 80 cent discount? That's just WEIRD.

She left because she didn't want to have to try and be polite to an idiot.

It isn't bad to pay with cash, but it is beyond dumb to ask for a "discount for cash" in a hair salon.

I regularly pay with cash because it's harder for the government to track me.
