Music boosts intelligence because reading music is the same direction as reading a book - left to right and top to bottom. Same brain stimulation. It teaches children a sense of aesthetics. Piano Is a good foundation as a solo instrument - and it's the only instrument that can truly accompany itself - or as a foundation to learning other instruments. They can make music with other kids, which is crucial for peer relationships.

Childhood is the best time for anyone who wants to learn to play an instrument. When we're young, our brains absorb information much more quickly than, say, when we're in our teens, or older.
