Iranians really are not that different than Egyptians?

I have been to Egypt and saw how people and society was there, and have been watching a lot of documentaries on Iran and Iranians, and they seem VERY similar to each other...how true and why this is probably? (even though Iranians are proud to point out that they are "Persians" and not "Arabic", why?)

Update:

the modes of dress, style of behavior seems very similar. the way the streets are organized, the driving, the general "style" of everything seems like it is nearly just a different state in the same country, am I right? how about Afghanistan or Pakistan?

Islam shapes the landscape to an extent, buildings, style of dress etc..add to that the fact that both countries are populated by Caucasians, lighter and darker skinned, all be it Egypt has some Black African admixture. As someone said though an Iranian who landed in Egypt would notice differences, some significant, that non Middle eastern people would not instantly spot, same vice versa.Put it this way a Chinese person lands in Ireland, spends a short time there then goes to Poland, they will first notice two places which are majority White people, similar climate and similarish buildings stippled churches, along with romanised writing system everywhere but an Irish person in Poland knows they aren't in Ireland straight away, the same is true of a Pole in Ireland.

To them, there is a world of difference. To the rest of the world, it's like arguing the difference between two types of ducks. At the end of the day, you are looking at a duck.

could be cause in the "olden days" they were the richest compared to other middle eastern countries and hence different from the arabs of today. Also iranians dont consider themselves arab as they are mostly shia muslim and the vast majority of arabs are sunni muslim and iranians dont even speak arabic but farsi

Thank you dear. We do look somewhat alike. But Persians are not Arab because we don't speak Arabic. We have an Indo European language called Farsi or Persian.
