Should I save money on fuel and use diesel instead?

You're going to buy a diesel engine car?
You're not thinking if running diesel in a gasoline car, right?
If so, you can't do that.

I don't know where you live, but diesel costs more here in North Carolina

heating oil is a type of diesel fuel. If you have an old furnace and you mean to heat your house then possibly.
If you are buying a car that uses diesel you could wind up seeing diesel cost more than gasoline it has happened before.
if you want to use diesel in a car not designed to use diesel you could spend a fortune repairing or replacing it

Without any numbers on miles you drive each year, mileage for the two types of vehicles and the cost of fuel, it's impossible to say.
And you thought "I'll never have to use math in real life, what a waste of time?"

Diesel engines are really expensive to fix when something eventually goes wrong.
