yes. illistrated blade more like wakazashi , many similar blades made in china for american market after ninja movies, some are even good steel that can be used in garden to chop weeds. couple of Japanese sword school drill use Katana one handed and second hand has shorter blade, a double draw of long and short sword with X pattern high and low is a 500 year old classic draw and cut, slash high toward eyes with katana while wakazashi goes toward groin, belly or inside of thigh. second move is reverse draw /blade down for short blade for block as forearm covered by blade. Some 'Ninja' swords 1/2 way between Katana and Wakazashi- what your picture might be sold as. some different drills for them, some of drills similar to Chinese Jian, light sword , court sword.

    1. That is not a katana.

    2. To some extent yes, there are a few techniques that use one hand. And there are a lot more techniques that use two hands.

Using both hands adds power and speed to the techniques.

    3. Jago is clueless. As JoKyoNim said, A katana like most swords weigh less then three pounds. A heavy sword was considered to be more then three pounds, usually about four to five. But that was rare since you needed to wheeled a sword in a battle for an extended time. They were made fairly light.

When it comes to using a katana with only one hand, the shorter & lighter the katana is, the easier it will be to wield properly. Your katana should be light enough for you to easily swing one-handed, and no longer than the length of your shoulder to your longest extended finger.

    That IS NOT a katana

Traditionally the Katana is 2 handed. It can be used 1 handed if need be. they weigh 2 to 3 pounds.

The weight of a suburito (wooden sword) like the 1 Tom Cruise used in Last Samurai is roughly the same weight as a Katana.

Both the Katana and Suburito can be used 1 handed. It may seem awkward for some to use.

I have trained 1 handed with a suburito and a katana. It is not that difficult as some here make it to be.

Probably can be, but not traditionally. A one handed sword of the same style is called a wakizashi.
