When someone promises to let you have a car that you're currently driving, can they just revoke that whenever they want?

Like it has a temp tag and I'm waiting on him to put it in my name like he said he would.

But he's taking a while to do it because he likes holding it over me.

Now he threatens to tow it back to his house. Can he do that?

He said I could have it after my car got me into an accident because the brakes didn't work

As long as the car is in his name, and there is no written contract between the 2 of you, he can take it back.

Yes, he can. The reason is that a promise to do something is not a contract.
