Whales are mammals that look a lot like fish if you scale them down and turn the tail 90° and watch them through muddy water.

They are mammals. Of course, like fish, they have a body shape that is suitable for moving through water efficiently.

Whales are fish because they live in the ocean and cannot survive outside of water. They are mammal-like, but they are not mammals. The Bible even tells us that they are just big fish.

Whales are mammals because they suckle their young with milk. Other features that identify them as mammals (instead of fish) are tail flukes that beat up and down instead of sideways. Fish, amphibians and reptiles swim by moving their tail laterally, but mammals swim by bending their vertebral column up and down. An alligator for example may swing its tail from side to side to defend themselves and to swim. A whale on the other hand will beat its tail up and down. A mule or a horse will kick backwards with its legs. When a mule kick backwards, its vertebral column flexes up and down.

Mammals also have a jaw joint that is different from those of amphibians and reptiles. The mammalian jaw joint is formed by the dentary bones articulating with the squamasal. Reptilian jaws have the quadrate articulate with the articular bone.

Whales are mammals , I don’t really need to explain but whales don’t have gills and fish do , also whales have a backbone , fish don’t and whales feed their babies breast milk and fish do not because they don’t have milk glands unlike whales who do , thus making them mammals , also whales being mammals and humans being mammals , this means whales are much closer to you than they are to a fish!
