No the same for war criminals even if they are 150 years old they should be put on trial and if found Guilty

    executed

a stolen item must remain stolen until it is returned to original owner or their family

Uh . . .would that mean we could display our stolen Jewish art?

I was specifically referring to looted art. So much time has passed it is getting hard to know if a piece of art was actually looted, or if the family legitimately sold it to get money to flee the Nazis. After 2045, one hundred years after the war ended, a statute of limitations should be in effect.

Why? MOST of the allegedly stolen loot is in the U.S. & the countries of the former U.S.S.R. Theft remains theft, no matter who does it, when, where, or from whom. The U.S., for example, still has a great deal of Hitler's property which, by his Last Will, was to be given to the German state.

    I don’t see why.

The statutes of limitations don’t apply to crimes, only to civil cases, at least in the Anglo-Australian legal tradition.

No. They should follow Austria's example and oblige restitution of looted items whenever they emerge.

Swiss banks hold looted nazi gold, art, and foreign currency. A statute of limitations would one day give them title to their deposits made by nazis of stolen loot
