Why do we spell it "open the door" why don't we spell it "open de dur"?

Consistency. We all pronounce words a little differently. If we all spelled words the way we say them, everybody would spell the same words differently. That would make it harder to read.

If I were to spell out the sentence the way *I* say it, it would be "opin tha dor". Looks a little weird, doesn't it? (to say nothing of making spell-check go crazy)

For me it would be "Open th(uh) dor".

    Because we're not German.

because nobody ever had the sense or the power to rationalise English spelling

One reason is door is spelled that way and another is "dur" is pronounced as in either durable or duress, neither of which is comparable to how door is pronounced.

I don't know about you, but I don't pronounce 'the' as 'de', nor do I pronounce 'door' as 'dur'.

Because "open the door" is the correct way to spell it, in English anyway

Because the person who created the word door wrote it as such.

because no one cares about French people.
