What do you think of Granger? Too much like a slave owner or a nice name or not a “real name” at all?

It's unusual as a first name but could work for a middle name.

It's okay, but there are much better names out there.

How does slave owner become a mental association?

I just think of it as an especially southern sounding name, like Branch, Grady, Avery, Dixie, Huck, Jud, Nellie, Owen, Jeb

It is a real name, one of a boatload of "occupation" names like Miller or Smith or Weaver. If you grew grain, you were a granger. It has nothing to do with slavery.

But it sure doesn't work as a first name.

Just reminds me of Hermione Granger. Don’t really like it as a first name.
