All living things on earth are are currently classified into 5 kingdoms. These are Prokaryota, Plantae, Animalia, Fungi, and Protista.
Prokaryota includes all bacteria.
Fungi includes yeast, mold, mushrooms
Protista includes all single-celled organisms that have a nucleus and some algae.
Plantae of course includes all plants
Animalia includes all animals that have more than a single cell, and it includes humans.
Therefore humans are included in the kingdom Animalia. The common name for all members of Animalia is animal. Therefore yes, humans are classified as animals. If we go back 3.2 billion years, all living things on earth were bacteria. Since then, protists, fungi, plants and animals evolved from a common ancestor that was a bacterium. That means the ancestor of humans was once a bacterium.
