Somebody rising up and, later, forgiveness of his brothers

Some stories that are made up to tell children are very interesting. They hold your interest and take you along through a succession of episodes. This story is like that. I really think it might have started out as a story meant for narration, not necessarily to children. The favorite son becoming the victim, the victim becoming the hero through hard work and applying his gifts. The prudence of preparing for a rainy day. And stay away from women with powerful husbands! The story would have made a great novel!

The Bible is full of great insights into human nature, and there are a lot in this story. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. How Joseph was special to his dad and that caused his brothers to envy him and hate him and eventually want to do away with him. How we all can become stars if we're able to apply our special gifts and talents. And how adultery is treacherous. Adulterers always get into some kind of trouble in the Bible. The story is good for teaching principles too.

There is no point to it.
