Are septum piercings cultural appropriation?
I’m white, and I’ve admired body mods/piercings since I was little. I’ve been experimenting with homemade jewelry and made a couple septum rings that wouldn’t need to pierce my skin to wear.
Anyway, I wore them around the house for a bit, and my dad said:
“You’re probably appropriating culture”
I don’t want to bring offensive, or appropriate any cultures, but all my web-searching has been vague and inconclusive.
So I’d like to know officially-
Can I wear septum/nose piercings? Or would that be appropriation?

I live in the U.S. and septum piercings are second only to the nostril when it comes to nose piercings. They look good and fit well into all cultures that I have encountered. My youngest daughter has a nostril stud and septum ring. It is perfectly normal in our culture.

The barbarians of old Europe pierced their bodies for ornaments too. That is not endemic to just 1 or 2 peoples.
