They will be well trained in administering tests under all situations

They CAN. Some of the tasks YOU associate with a field sobriety test may not be applicable, but anyone capable of operating a vehicle, even with specialized controls, CAN be administered a field sobriety test. The test actually NEVER about successfully completing the tasks. It is about the officer observing your attempt to perform the tasks. It is entirely possible to successfully perform the tasks and legitimately fail the test. It is also possible to fail to perform the tasks, an legitimately pass the test.

The officers are trained to spot impairment.

There is an alternative called "seated field sobriety", The tests were designed for boaters on the water, but can be used on someone unable to stand.

The HGN (eye test) can still be performed. If they are not capable of doing the other tests, the officer will probably just take them for a breath/blood test.

A breath blood and Urine test1

    Problem solved.

besides which I knew a drunk who could carry out a sobriety test and pass with flying colors when he was drunk as a skunk.

And fail it when he was stone cold sober!.

if they can't perform any of the tests, and are drinking and driving, they probably shouldn't be driving in the first place.

They have mental tests like reciting the alphabet backwards.

Bruce: A SEMI-quailfied officer can tell the difference between a sober person attempting to recite the alphabet backwards and an impaired person making the attempt, REGARDLESS of the success.
