What is a temporary SSN? This has no meaning to me. As an adult you need a government issued ID for travel.

However, if you don't have such an ID, then your ID can be established by other means.

https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/iden... (Look under "Forgot your ID" section.)

    Source(s): Work part-time as a TSA officer.

Well, if you didnt need one before to travel, why would you need one now?

Nah, you'll probably need a plane or something.

A social security card is not acceptable ID for air travel. You need government-issued PHOTO ID. A SS card is useless as ID. You need to get a state ID card or driver's license if you don't already have one.

A social security number is not sufficient ID for flying. You will need some form of accepted government picture ID for flying domestically. You will need a passport to fly internationally.

You cannot even fly with a permanent ssn. You need a state-issued ID with a picture on it or a passport.
