Why does France have so many immigrants from N. Africa, W. Africa and the Middle East?

Was the Post-1945 influx of migration due to a shortage of labour in the immediate wake of WW2?

Colonization. The French colonized those areas. Made them a part of France.

Same reason so many African and Middle Eastern nations are Francophone. Beirut and Damascus aren't called "the Parisis of the Middle East" for no reason and when you colonize people and force your language and religion onto them they tend to show up on your door when they need a handout.

    Because France tolerates it.

There was no shortage of labor after WW 1 or 2 despite the millions killed and vast amount of reconstruction needed. Industry was mostly destroyed, and there weren't all that many jobs. Govts' encouraged women to "return to hearth & home" - give up their jobs to make way for men to be hired. The problem was Algeria - soon-to-be-former French colony - and an influx of Algerians, and those posing as Algerians.

By the 1980s-90s, France was not stringently enforcing its borders, especially the Mediterranean & port of Marseilles. Overpopulation in Africa, largely unskilled & useless, could get into France. And the flood turned into an invasion throughout Europe.

French Colonies. France practically ruled the Saharan Regions & Morocco.

    Colonists always have easy entry.

Because France had colonies in those areas and the people were granted liberal immigration status.

Because France had colonised large parts of those areas, and forced the population to learn French

They are victims of their leader, president Macron, who is a Globalist. A Globalist wants to get away from Nationalism. So France is seeing themselves betrayed, and the traitor (to them) is still in power.

imo had little to do with it and the eu and un have flooded most european countries with immigrants in the last couple of decades, imo to muddy the native cultures and make the region easier to govern centrally with less resistance ..

Always been that way. It’s an old country.

On another note and off topic, did you know that on immigration forms, everyone from Middle East, North Africa is considered white?

The US plays with race and ethnicity in crazy ways no other nation on earth does. My Arab relatives are considered Caucasian in every country on the planet, except the US. We're pretty backwards this way.
