Their argument is about like saying that if a family gets caught in a stolen and the parents are arrested the kids should be able to keep the car. Or if the parents buy a house they can't pay for and get evicted the kids should be able to stay in the house.

  The left is. Considering that all slaves are dead. And all slave owners are dead. Not to mention that only about 6% of American families ever owned slaves. And that the Democratic Party caused all of it, including the KKK, Jim Crow, and the blocking of Civil Rights for decades.
