I feel that they are safer, now some people driving them are not, this is why so many of them roll over with out an accident with another vehicle. They drive like they are driving a sports car not a truck.

Yes and no, depending on who is driving them and how they're being driven.

If you're driving on uneven terrain during a snowstorm, even a small SUV is safer than any sedan or coupe. If you're taking a 90-degree corner at 40 km/h, you don't want to be anywhere near an SUV when you do it.

No. The accident rate is higher for SUVs than for cars. One reason is that an SUV or minivan is more likely to roll over on its side than a car. However, the main issue is that something about the name "SUV" seems to make drivers less careful or attract less careful drivers. One car company sold identical cars under two different model names and called one SUV and the other minivan and the ones called SUV crashed more than the ones called minivan. One theory was that mothers tended to buy the one called minivan and driver carefully because of their kids and single men tended to buy the one called SUV and some of them drove recklessly to impress women.

No. They have a higher center of gravity, which makes them less stable and more prone to rolling.

That's up to the nut behind the wheel.

    In most ways, yes.

They have a higher center of gravity making them easier to roll. But that's about the only negative.

Yes. More metal to absorb an impact.
