I have all wood floors in my home, all 4 bedrooms, family room, dining room and living room and all hallways. Vinyl in the two baths and laundry room. Slate in the breezeway.
I despise wall to wall carpet and will never have any in my home. I do like area rugs, but wall to wall carpeting can get pretty nasty with stains, wear patterns, when you move furniture you can see how clean the carpet used to be. Also, carpeting holds so much dirt and debris....like pounds and pounds and pounds of dirt.
I sweep my floors regularly and am shocked at how much dirt is in the dustpan. Then, I imagine all that dirt stuck in carpeting and it makes me cringe. And the odors that carpet hold onto can be off putting, especially if you have any pets...and that is not even talking about pee or poop accidents.
Wood floors are so easy to clean. You install them once. They always match your décor. They can be softened with colorful removable area rugs. Wood floors, when kept swept, last a lifetime, whereas carpeting needs to be replaced. What wears the finish on wood floors is the dirt that comes off of your shoes and then is ground in, like sandpaper when walked over. If you put felt pads on ALL of the legs on furniture, there will be no scratches if you sweep before you move the furniture.
I am a big fan of wood floors. Wood floors add more value to a home as well. Carpet can get pretty nasty and when you move all of the furniture out of the room, you can see just how dirty the carpeting really is.
