can you live without DNA?

I mean well since DNA is the hereditary thing of traits and stuff it's only needed for reproduction andballs-to-the-walls passing down the genes right

it serves no other use in the body right?

It's used continually throughout your life to produce proteins, enzymes, and direct growth.

No. The kinds of living organisms currently known on Earth all use carbon compounds for basic structural and metabolic functions, water as a solvent, and DNA or RNA to define and control their form.

As far as we know, DNA/RNA is the only language the recipe of life is written in.

Your understanding of DNA is wrong.

DNA recombines at meiosis when your father's sperm met your mother's egg .

DNA keeps replicating from one cell to the next via mitosis.

DNA is used to make proteins like hemoglobin which captures oxygen and carbon dioxide, like membrane proteins which guard the passage of material in and out of cells, like antibodies which regulate immunity, like DNA polymerase which replicates DNA, like keratin in your hair, like actin and myosin which control muscle contraction and relaxation, like everything needed to sustain life.

DNA also makes mRNA, and it also make ribosomal RNA, and it also makes tRNA which is all important for biological functions.

DNA is not just for reproduction. It is continuously being transcribed by cells. For example, when the body needs an enzyme to produce a particular protein, such as keratin (found in skin cells and hair cells) the information on how to make that enzyme is stored in the DNA and must be read off the DNA for that enzyme to be made. Without the needed enzyme, nothing can be made.

It's needed to sustain life - you must have missed something in class...
