    It's a juvenile... something. The adult form is going to have wings. Now imagine your scary thing bigger and flying.

    In the meantime, do not pick it up with your bare hands. I think Daniel G is spot on and it's one of the assassin bugs. Getting a bite from one of those would be like dialing your diabetic lancing device up to 7.

    Hard to be certain, that proboscis looks to be one of the assassin bugs, one of the predatory good bugs for agriculture.

    Nothing to fear at all, harmless, but hear a bite can sting a little.

      It's an early instar assassin bug. There's species of them south of the border that carry Chagas Disease, and I've heard cases of bites up here in the Southern U.S. where the person's gotten it. So the disease is moving north.
