What's the best auto insurance company to use?
Yeah you know I got a quote from the General that was $2300 per year plus a $1000 deductible which brings it to only $1300 per year. That's pretty good, but is there any coverage that costs less than this? Do other compnays offer a discount like this one?

Your understanding of your insurance is all wrong. They do not reduce your price by $1000. the deducible is what they will pay you if you have an accident. If the damage is 5000 dollars they will pay you 4000 you have to make up the last $1000. out of your pocket. General is not the cheapest out there I have Geaco on two vehicles and pay $885 a yera and have 250 deducible. Shop around!

The deductible is not a discount, it's the part of the accident (or whatever damage) that your policy does not cover.
If your policy costs $2300 a year and no accidents happen, you still pay $2300 that year. If it costs $2300 and you crash your car, it costs $2300 for the year plus you pay the $1000 deductible.
But yes, all insurance companies offer discounts. The more desirable a customer you are, the more discounts they'll offer you. Your best bet is to call an insurance provider or six and compare them around, and be sure to ask them what the hell they're talking about when they mention stuff like deductibles, liability limits, optional coverages, and any of that other mumbo-jumbo language they use.
Any idiot can say "it costs this much, sign here", only a real professional can tell you what you're signing in layman's terms.

Use the best company for *YOU*.
The best insurance for one person may be the worst for the next person.
You are thoroughly confused about that $1,000.00 deductible sunshine. That deductible very likely refers to the collision part of insurance. It means that you must pay the first $1,000.00. It is NOT a discount on the cost of the premium. I'm pretty sure that your total premium will be $2300.00.....not $1300.00

It is very unusual that the premiums would be reduced by $1000 a year by paying $1000 deductible. If it does, then that's a very good deal and you're unlikely to find a better one. We're not insurance agents so all you can do is call around and get other quotes.

That's not what a deductible is. $2300 per year with a $1000 deductible means you pay $2300 per year just to have the insurance, even if you never use it, plus you pay another $1000 each time that you use.

"The General" didn't offer you any kind of discount. Your auto insurance is going to cost you $2300/year.
The $1000 deductible isn't a "discount". The deductible is the amount you agreed with the insurance company that you're going to have to come up with out of your own pocket to pay for repairs if you're involved in an accident; and it comes into play only if you're involved in an accident.
For example: You're involved in accident, and the repairs to your car are going to total $2000. Your insurance company will issue you a check for $1000 to help pay for repairs.($2000 damage less your $1000 deductible). You have to pay the $1000 yourself to the repair shop, if you want your car repaired. The insurance company is NOT going to pay you the full $2000 repair cost - the amount of your deductible will apply.

No, the deductible isn't used to reduce the amount you pay in premiums. The deductible is the amount you have to pay out of pocket when you have a collision or comprehensive claim on your vehicle.

You clearly don't understand deductibles. Your insurance will cost you $2300/year. If you have an accident and it costs, say, $5000 to fix, YOU pay the first $1000 (your deductible) and insurance pays $4000. The ONLY way to find the best rates is to simply call or contact several companies and ask. However, remember those with the best rates aren't necessarily the best when it comes to handling accident claims. The General is not known for great claim service.

Your math is flawed. The $1,000 deductible is only applicable if you have an accident. Otherwise it's $2,300 per year.

..the deductible is what you pay out of pocket before the insurance pays. it doesn't take anything off the premium cost
