    Its monarchy. Like it or not, that's one of the first things people think of: the Queen. They also think of the hereditary peerage and associated estates.

    Shakespeare.

    Received Pronunciation is another thing people associate with England. The UK has many accents, but RP is what people hear most in British television shows and films.

    A lot of people enjoy British entertainment in general, such as the Harry Potter books and films, British mystery novels, and so forth.

      No-one thinks about peerages. Very few have any interest in Shakespeare other than recognising the name.

    Inventing sports, Football, Cricket, rugby, etc etc , introducing them to other countries and then losing to those countires. Inventing girls sports (netball, rounders, hockey) and exporting them to USA.

      Yes , I accept that sports sort of evolved rather than were invented but until there were formal and uniform rules they were not really the sports we know today. It was a light hearted comment rather than a history lesson.
