Do pilots like to play chicken when they see another airplane coming the other way?

    Yeah, that's exactly what caused 9/11. Stupid buildings, well show them if they don't get out of our way.

    Never as a game of chicken.

    But display pilots such as the “synchro pair” in the RAF Red Arrows display team practice an manoeuvre which looks that way: both BAE Hawks approach each other nose to nose at very low level until they roll away from each other at the last moment, passing belly-to-belly.

    Highly trained they may be, but even for them that trick has led to losses of aeroplanes and even pilots over the decades.

    Some may get a real rush from such a game, but most realize it is a dangerous thing to do, so they don't.

    Certainly not. If the FAA ever caught wind (pun intended) of such an antic, both pilots would have their licenses permanently suspended.

      I'll bet a dollar F-16 pilots do it all the time. They are USAF and exempt from FAA rules when in training above 5,000 feet.
