Houston (Spring) Texas or Bakersfield California? Those are currently my two options where I can live for my job. Which one is better? TIA!?

Get a new job. Bakersfield isn't QUITE as bad as the other answer, but near enough. Houston is huge, hot and wet. Hot like step outside and sweat hot. Hot like 99F/99%. In the summer it rains every day at 3pm because the humidity hits 100%. Throw in ginormous mosquitoes, fire ants and water mocassins. And like all the gulf coast, bugs and frogs. The food can be decent, especially seafood. Houston actually has some things going for it, which is why it has grown so fast and so big. Did I mention that it's hot and sweaty? BTW, Houston is 1000 times the size of Bakersfield, if that's a factor. Probably more than that.

Bakersfield has the worst air quality in the country.

It's 1 hour from Downtown LA (iwhtout traffic) and many residents have never been over the grapevine into LA County.

The food is awful... like midwest small town food

You would have to pay me a lot of money to live there.

Houston is "ok" but would not be a place I'd want to live.
