Was the collapse of the Soviet Union the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th Century?

    No. In fact it could be argued that most of the 300 million under Soviet domination did better because of the collapse, But by any measure any one of the geopolitical catastrophes of WWI, the depression or WWII were many times more catastrophic than the collapse of the Soviet Union

    No probably the collapse of the Ottoman empire, at least they kept the middle east region secure and under control, most of the former Soviet states are doing OK.
