I can only really report from the UK, so we have all the chains like McD, KFC, everywhere!. It's funny, there's a drive-in McD being built just up the road from me,all the locals are annoyed and there have been protests because people don't like the extra traffic, the stale smell of cooking fat etc, plus there are a lot of schools in the area and people are worried about children making unhealthy food choices. On the other hand, McD can offer employment to local young people.
In Bristol where I live, it's a foodie cosmopolitan city so we have amazing foods from all over the globe. I suppose it depends on what part of the US you come from, we have restaurants serving California fusion, Caribbean, BBQ /smoke joints, Cajun etc.Plus every kind of cuisine you care to mention from sushi to smorgasbord. So much so, we don't even think of it as 'ethnic' food any more- it's just good food, whatever you fancy, what you can afford to buy and how good you are at cooking. We love our British dishes like cottage pie, fish and chips and Sunday roast beef too,
