Talk with an orthopedic surgeon, they will be the best to advise, your GP would refer you to one usually. If you need a medical referral though do what you need to be covered.
I had a plate and screws placed back in 98, it bugged me from time to time and you can see a lump kind of thing on my forarn ut aside from the occasional tweet it really doesn’t bother me.
My ortho explained that the bone broke through and through just like someone used a clear and set straight down. As an adult he recommended I keep the plate and pins I unless they were painful more than just a tweek here and there, said the pain could also be scar tissues.
Depending on type of beak Nd the damage it had they may need to lead it in, however seeing how young you were and the bone grew jotted not just from normal repair but from aging they may simply take it out or the hardware that’s causing the pain.
If the plate and screws were loose you would feel swelling and movement of the hardware, which incidentally rarely moves after the first few months because the bones grown around it to seal it (the screws)
Good luck and don’t worry about the removal surgery, it’s not that bad.
