Why is it that parents are horrified by the death of a child?

    Because it defies the natural order of things. Parents expect their children to outlive them.

    Obviously you've never lost a child or you wouldn't ask an insensitive question like that. That is a pain and horror that you never ever get over.

    A parent NEVER "gets over" the death of one of their children - no matter how old the child was when he or she died, or how old the parents were when their child died.
