Why does my baby do this??

My almost 3 month old drinks his bottle for like 20 seconds then he turns his head away from the bottle and he’s fine for like 20 more seconds then he starts chewing his hands and acting like he’s really hungry but he does the same thing over and over and over again. Feedings sometimes last a long time because he takes breaks in between and sometimes he takes long breaks and sometimes he takes short breaks. He won’t take a pacifier either.

Nipple hole could be too small, or blocked, so it's hard work for him to get the milk out.

Or it could be too big, so he gets flooded and needs to take a break to catch his breath.

Or he's just a baby who likes to eat more slowly.

The nipple could be blocked or YOU NEED TO BURP HIM! You have to rub his back in big circles for a long time until you get a burp up!

Try a size up nipple or maybe a different formula if it's not breast milk.

  • Not all babies feeding habits are the same. as long he is healthy and gaining weight, he'll be fine.

    Pippin has a great answer.

One other thing. Are you trying to feed on a schedule or feeding when baby gives signals of being hungry. If you are trying to feed on a schedule, you might be feeding before the baby is truly hungry and that is why there is a lack of interest in feeding.

3 month olds are not toddlers. They are infants.

Maybe the hole in the teat is not big enough to allow the milk to come out easily .
