    There is no fixed theory as to which is the oldest shinto shrine in Japan. This Omiwa Shrine is one of the candidates for the oldest shrine.

    You sound like you have extensive knowledge of the Japanese traditional culture (maybe more than I do despite me being Japanese). I rarely think about that kind of stuff. From a brief read on a Wiki article I just learned that Shinshoku is the same as Kannushi. And I did some looking up online and found out that the oldest known Shinto shrine in Japan is Ōmiwa Shrine in Nara. Hope this helps.
