Is there a product that when added to water that would make water turn different color when urine is mixed?

    No, there is not. If there were, the pool would be bright orange every afternoon as the kids delighted in making little colored clouds.

    (Edit: there is such a chemical but not such a product.)

    Yes. There is an old wive's tail that they put stuff in swimming pools that would turn the water blue if you peed in the pool. That was told to kids to keep them from peeing in the pool. However the easiest way is to use a weak acid or base that changes color as the pH of the water changes. Urine usually has a pH of 6, which is acid so if you use the right indicator the water will turn color with urine added. The easiest way to tell that people pee in a pool is if it smells like chlorine then people are peeing in the pool. If the water is pure there is no smell.

      No. Phenolphthalein changes color around a pH of 9. Urine is usually slightly acidic.
