My wife and I have vacationed in the Mayan Riviera each year for several years now. As long as a person stays in the tourist areas and takes resort organized tours, the area is safe. Unless you know the area, it's not a good idea to go out to the night clubs unless in a group. If a person gets falling down drunk, you become a target for theft. Not all taxi's are legitimate, and seem to come out at night. The last few incidents where there were deaths, happened well away from the tourist areas of Cancun and Playa del Carmen. When these things hit the news, they come out with a shooting, or explosion at a night club in the tourist city of Cancun or Playa del Carmen. When a person looks up the incident, it's well away from the tourist areas of these cities, and usually happens late at night or the wee hours of the morning. So if your daughter is going to Cancun for her honeymoon, I'm sure she will be just fine. There are over 6 million people that vacation in the Cancun area each year, and I'm sure a small portion don't make it home due to heart attacks, drownings, traffic accidents, and falls after drinking too much.
