Why do you need to go to a doctor to get birth control pills but can get condoms over the counter?
I'm allergic to latex for example.

You don’t have to, in all countries. China, Russia, and Mexico all have it OTC And in fact there’s a movement to make the pill available OTC here in the us... as drugs go it really isn’t all *that* risky in comparison to other OTC meds
The decision is up to the FDA. They are subject to both science and politics and as of now have said “no.”

Different pills may be prescribed for different women due to their body chemistry. In buying condoms, you only need to be sure of the composition of the materials used.

Medication is given by body weight - If your weight changes your doses of medicine may need adjusting to be effective. That is why you need to see the Dr.

Because birth control pills have to be used correctly to be effective. And seeing a doctor for them makes t more likely (though unfortunately doesn't guarantee) that the woman will understand how to use them.
There are also health conditions (not just allergies) that would make pills unsafe.
If a woman wants an OTC method, there are vaginal spermicides. They have a high failure rate used alone, but are very good with condoms.
