Would ¥1,000,000 a month be considered a comfortable salary in Tokyo?

    Yeah. the average salary is like 200,000-300,000 yen per month.

    That is quite an above average salary amount. Very comfortable, comparatively speaking. How big a place you want as well as lifestyle will naturally affect how much money you have at the end of the month of course.

    That's about $9,000 a month, or $118,000 a year. Have you checked out rentals in Tokyo? Are you getting any help from your employer? It's fairly common for them to pay something called "key" fees. There's really good public transportation in Tokyo- you don't need to maintain a car, and you can live on the outskirts pretty easily. I'm seeing rents from $1500 to $3000 a month.

    Very roughly, a yen is worth a penny. Tokyo is pricey.
