All you need is a valid passport.

There are three main ways to visit the Islands for a holiday: flying via the United Kingdom, flying via South America, via cruise ship.
There is a weekly flight from Santiago de Chile (SCL) to the Falkland Islands via Punta Arenas (PUQ).
Cruise vessels regularly visit the Falkland Islands between October and March, and range from luxury liners to small expeditionary vessels.

Fly to Santiago, Chile, from where you can get a flight to Port Stanley every Saturday. You will need to book accommodation first. Of course you need a passport, but a visa is not required for US citizens. Instead you will receive a visitor's permit valid for 4 weeks on arrival.
Edit - if you thumbed this down, explain why.

The same as any other place. Get a tourist visa, people do live and work there. You don't need security clearance.

You will have to fly in a British Military aircraft from the UK. No idea if you need a visa or not.
