According to religion class at catholic school I won’t know where I will spend eternity until I meet God. Are they right?

They also pray to Mary and something to me doesn’t feel right about it

No that is not right......Jesus tells has that if we repent of our sins and accept him has our personal Savior and Lord that he will forgave us of all our sins, past, present, and future.

Jesus is not a liar and we need to trust and believe in what he says. If you really love him and try and obey his teachings your name is written in his "Book of Life" and it is written there permanently.

Yes. The Bible says it is possible to have assurance of one's salvation. John the evangelist wrote:

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life (1 John 5:13).

Note that John says that those who have believed in Christ can know that they have eternal life. Therefore if you have believed in Jesus as your Savior then you are saved. The Bible says so.

    Faith In His Word

The main reason we can be assured of our salvation is because God's Word clearly teaches it. We do not have to hope that we will someday be saved or continue to pray that we might be saved. If we have trusted Jesus Christ God says we are saved and His Word is sufficient. The Scripture says:

Forever, O Lord, Your Word is settled in heaven (Psalm 119:89).

Trusting God at His Word can give us the assurance of salvation. Therefore we are encouraged to draw near to Him.

Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water (Hebrews 10:22).

One of the ways God assures us of our salvation is the peace He gives:

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Jesus Christ (Philippians 4:7).

    New Life

In addition those who have trusted Christ enter into a new life.

And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God (1 Corinthians 6:11).

Our actions and attitudes change when we trust Christ.

The Mark Of A True Believer

Apart from the clear teaching of Scripture, there are other ways in which a person can know they are saved.

    1.Loves Other Believers

Those who have trusted Christ will love other believers.

We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. Anyone who does not love remains in death (1 John 3:14).

    2.Confirmation Of The Holy Spirit

The Bible says the Holy Spirit gives confirmation to us that we are His children.

The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children (Romans 8:16).

    The Apostle John wrote:

Anyone who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in their heart. Anyone who does not believe God has made them out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about His Son (1 John 5:10).

    3.Hatred Of Sin

A hatred of sin is a mark of the Christian.

For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace (Romans 6:14).

    4.Loves The Good

Those who have trusted Jesus Christ as Savior will love that which is good. The Bible encourages us to hate evil and love the good. The prophet Amos said: Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts. Perhaps the LORD God Almighty will have mercy on the remnant of Joseph (Amos 5:15).

The Bible says that a person can know that they are saved. The Scripture also promises assurance to those who trust Christ as Savior.

A word a caution......being baptized as an infant does not save anyone. In order to be save one needs to make that commitment to follow Jesus as a person who understand what they are doing.

And again you are correct about praying to Mary.....the only person we should pray to is Jesus. The bible tells us that he is our only intercessor to the Father. Not Mary or some priest.

    1 Timothy 2:5

For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus

    Hebrews 9:15

Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant

    1. You're not very convincing. It's not called religion class and what are you doing there since you're not Catholic?

    2. Yes, they're right: “Only he who perseveres to the end will be saved.” Matthew 24:13

    3. When did the evangelical churches go from "repent of your sins" to "your ticket is bought and paid for"? That's not Christianity.

    4. And if you really went to Catholic "religion class" you would know praying isn't worshiping.

Matthew 7. They all thought (presumed) they'd be in heaven. Wrong answer.

Not true! The Bible tells us where we will spend eternity and when. God has even put eternity into our minds.(Ecc.3:11) Meaning we were designed to live forever. John17:3 "This means EVERLASTING LIFE, their coming to know you, the ONLY TRUE God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.”(Read Ps.83:18;100:3)

Where did God put the first human couple to live? It was in an EARTHLY paradise. God’s purpose was to have, in the course of time, the entire earth inhabited by a righteous human family living together in peace and happiness.(Ps.37:29) And we STILL have that hope to live forever HERE ON EARTH, God DOES NOT change.(Isa.46:11;55:11 God has provided as a ransom sacrifice the life of his Son, Jesus Christ, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life.”(John3:16; Mat.20:28)

    According to WHEN Read Matt.24.

"You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven or on the earth or in the waters below..” (Exo.20:4,5)

Yes, unless you either receive the more sure word of prophecy that you have overcome the world -- or sin against the Holy Ghost. In those cases you will definitely know where you're going to end up. Even if you don't admit it.

Of course praying to Mary doesn't seem right to you. It is Jesus Christ who is our advocate with the Father.

And what, exactly, about having a goddess in a religion doesn't feel right? Is it too balanced for you? Do you prefer a patriarchal faith designed to oppress women?

No they are not right, you will know where you will dwell when you die..when you are in the grave it will be shown to you ahead of time where you will dwell one day and your dwelling will come the day you'll be resurrected for Resurrection Day meanwhile you await until that day comes. Your soul will either be in a blissful place or a torturous one until Day of Resurrection/Judgement Day. On Day of Resurrection, people will enter paradise or hellfire. There is an afterlife. Some people are delusional disbelievers. And you're right, praying to Mary or performing intermediaries is very very wrong and not monotheism. You can either question them catching them lie to you or you can leave altogether and seek the truth.

You're either a liar, or you're a wimp. There's nothing stopping you from asking your teachers these questions.

Troll. If you really went to Catholic school, then you'd know religion class has a name, and you would've called it by that name. As if the fact that you posted this question as Anonymous wasn't proof enough that you're a troll.

P.S. I answer all Anonymous questions as Anonymous. If you don't do us the courtesy of showing us who you are, then you don't get to know who I am.

No, there are no gods or afterlives. Once you are dead you are almost certainly just dead.
