Are the saving of staying near Amsterdam airport as opposed to the city center worth it?

Amsterdam is the last stop on our trip and I see many people advising to stay in the city center, but we would be paying about 200 dollars more for the three nights compared to a hotel near the airport. Is it really that bad?

    maybe, if you like tourists

You can save money by using a hostel outside the centre. There's good public transport

You might consider staying in the city the first two nights and then near the airport the night before you fly if you have an early flight. When you stay near the airport, you have the transit time to/from the city and can't stop by the hotel to drop stuff off during the day if you shop. It's not bad to stay near the airport but the city is a lot more convenient for seeing and doing things.

    Your choice.

the travel time to these hotels is less than hour from City centre easy to enjoy the sites of the city.

your travel day much easier getting to the airport.

The money you save buys a lot of souvenirs.

There is a convenient and inexpensive train from the city center to Schiphol Airport. We had a flight cancellation which resulted in staying at the airport hotel. We took the train to the city, so Rona Lachat has the best answer. I don't understand thumb-downs on her post.
