I lived in the Denver area for 48 years. When I left in 1980, it had been generations, since you could camp free, anywhere near Denver. As a cycle tourist, I found occasional areas on the western slope, but they were problematic, even in 1980. Free camping is a dream from the 1950s. I doesn't happen any more. There are too many people.

Dispersed camping in National Forest is free! Though I know where several are in Colorado, I don't know of any around the Denver area which I can pedal my bike to easily. Try Freecamping.com!
