Do students have to pay council tax if they with with a non-student?
We are 3 students based in Yorkshire. Our 4th potential housemate is a non-student, and he'll be working in the area. We are completely oblivious about how council tax 'works'; all we know is that students are eligible to apply for council tax exemption.
Our landlord has warned us that this would mean that all the tenants would have to pay the council tax, not just the 4th tenant. Is this true? I believe we are in council tax band 'c'.
Secondly, this potential housemate has offered to pay the full council tax on behalf of us should this be the case. Is this allowed, and how much would he have to pay?
