My poodle desperately needs a hair cut. Is it to late to go to the groomers now?
She hates getting it cut so much. Now im embarrassed to take her, do they mind doing dogs hair that is out of control. Even if you pay a lot? it's getting matted.

That's pretty much what they are there for so go ahead.

You can buy your own at pet stores

Take her to a veterinarian office, they pride themselves on QUALITY care. Poor thing should not be subjected to getting cut, bless his/her heart.

That is what a groomer does. Take the dog in for a proper grooming. And learn how to keep the coat from matting - no reason you can't be brushing and combing your dog several times a week. Poodles usually need to be groomed every 6-8 weeks to prevent the coat from getting matted.

Not sure why you think it is "too late" groomers know that many people don't look after their dogs coat and obviously charge more for those who have left it to matt....and many groomers will not groom poodles as many have no training in their clips, but most can do a basic poodle pet trim which is what it needs if you are not grooming it.
The 'norm' is a dog is brushed out, then bathed, dried and clipped, with a poodle, it is then bathed again, dried and and the clip 'finished'..a matted poodle you need to ask the groomer to clip off completely as it can take a full day of work unmatting and is very hard on the dog especially one who is not trained to stand to be groomed ( like a show poodle). So go and speak to the groomer and get this poodle in short pet trim and book it in for an 8 - 10 weeks regular appointment to keep it in good clean condition

You should be. They'll groom your dog but they'll charge you more - as they should - since it will be a lot more work.
Why don't you instead just take this poor dog to a no-kill shelter and surrender it? Clearly you don't have time for it nor do you care much about it or you wouldn't ignore it and let it get all nasty and matted. Shame on you.

Ask if there is an extra charge for a dog with overgrown hair. Explain the situation briefly. If the groomer sighs audibly or acts like it is a huge inconvenience to do this type of cut, please phone another groomer.

It's never too late and forget about how YOU feel and think about how your dog feels. Her comfort and grooming needs are far more important than your embarrassment. Just get her in. I guarantee they've probably dealt with worse.

It’s better than the alternative and you aren’t the only person who has a life and lets their poodles hair get out of control!
