On the weekends I go to some of the local markets to get fruit and veg, and to butchers to get meat. I head out to Howth which is a fishing village just outside Dublin to get sea food. I try to get locally produced products. But it is great fun walking around, chatting to people, picking different stuff each week.
This also cuts down on plastic packaging from supermarket products. It actually saves me money because I don't have to put my bins out as often and here you pay by weight. A lot of the packaging is just paper bags that can be recycled.
I generally cycle or use public transport to get to work. In rush hour traffic, this is faster and quite cheap. I'd spend less than 10 euro a day on transport, which is less than parking fees for cars in Dublin. Plus I can read or look at Y/A on the journey, check emails, etc.
I have a Nissan Leaf which gets me around otherwise. I'd get about 200 km on an overnight charge which costs me less than 4 euro.
