First, let me say I don't admire Assange's sexual ethics at all.
However, I must point out that there are forms of sexual assault that are less than rape. Groping, pinching, stuff like that. Now, originally he was accused of not using a condom when the woman told him to. Assange was apparently kind of like a rock star in his field, complete with groupies that wanted to go to bed with him. Disgusting, I know, but common enough. But in Sweden, the entire population seems to think of sex without condom as unthinkable except when both parties are trying for pregnancy, so it's a big deal with them. The woman wanted him tested for STD. Not a bad idea, I would say. He was out on bail - paid by others, not with his own money. So when he was granted asylum in the Ecuadorian Embassy, his friends lost their bail money. I told you I don't admire his ethics.
But these minor criminal accusations - more or less dropped by Sweden because they were too much trouble related to the severity of the crimes - were dwarfed by the accusations of espionage against the US government.
So, I'm not convinced that he raped anybody; but lesser forms of sexual assault I do not doubt.
Kind of a dysfunctional person too, I would say. He could have handled things much better to his advantage if he had used common sense.
