Why was The X-Factor not successful in the US?

I'm italian, i auditioned last week, and i was just thinking that here in Europe X-Factor is like everywhere, even in Malta ahah and in the USA it was canceled after just three seasons.. why?

    So many shows all doing the same stuff. Those talent shows are more popular in Europe anyway. Europeans like to see normal people do something skillful or impressive. Americans worship the stupidest and least talented people they can find. Somehow people who do absolutely nothing except post selfies, are multi-millionaires in America!

    Shows get canceled because of poor ratings. I assume that it was because the number of people watching wasn't as many as they had hoped for. Ratings play a large part in how much a network can charge for advertising time. It all has to do with the money in the end.
