Can a hybrid car still work without ever using the battery?
Let's take a toyota prius for example. Let's say someone bought a brand new hybrid prius and decided to never charge the battery. Would the car still work on gasoline alone? Or would it have to be necessary to charge the car in order for it to keep going?

A hybrid typically charges the battery pack, which is used at low speeds. You can drive it like a normal car if you really want to. But why lug around a battery pack and pay the extra expense of that hybrid tech if you not using it..

Impossible. By design it charges the battery as it runs on gasoline. You cannot make it quit using the electric feature.

The battery maintains charge as a part of normal operation. There are plug-in hybrids but they will also work forever without plugging in. The Toyota-based hybrid systems will not operate at all without the hybrid battery.
